The car can't have the trans/clutch checked until Monday when the dealer's trans guy comes in; but I was lazy and left the car there. Unless something magical happens, we won't know until then.

they should've given you a loaner, man

No loaner? Really?

That's a damn shame.
*drive home in automatic car. Still regrets getting an automatic :(*

Well I mean I still have my mom's rusty Windstar, and I didn't wanna have to pay for a week or more of extra rental fees.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 14:28 |

I have my mom's van, but a rental would've been nice. I didn't ask for one though so that's partly my fault.

My ST isn't automatic though..

I know. I was referring to myself. When I drove a manual car the clutch quite on me a few times the same way - turns out I needed a new master cylinder, which was like $50 and 1.5hrs of my time. I hope it's something as simple for you.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 14:32 |

I find it odd there isn't a full time trans / clutch staff member on site daily.

I would go back and ask for a loaner. It's pretty ridiculous they didn't even ask you if you wanted a loaner if your car is in for such a substantial problem after 6k miles.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 14:37 |

I hope so!

I'm not sure dealers operate. I'm assuming from your comment that this isn't a normal thing.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 14:39 |

Yeah they didn't ask, but it's alright, I've got this to drive until I get it back....
It's an old picture but the minivan on the left.... -_- :(

Loaners are NOT rentals and should not be charged as such. For a repair, the dealer should have provided adequate transportation. Whatever that may be. Dealer employee here.

Guy could be on vacation or have a family emergency. Did the dealer/Service Manager say if they've ever seen this before?
![]() 07/09/2014 at 14:50 |

Surely they don't need a specialised trans guy to check linkages and the slave cylinder etc which are likely faults. Most mechanics should be fine with that stuff. Unless they already checked that and are convinced the trans is shot.

I see, should I go back for a loaner? I mean I'm already home so I reckon it's a bit too late to ask.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 14:55 |

Not sure about the vacation or emergency part, but I don't think they've seen this before.

Who knows...?

Maybe they already fixed it and kept it to perform a bank robbery this weekend wearing a mask that looks like your face.

Honestly I'd go back and ask for one. I can imagine driving the windstar isn't very fun after having the ST haha. I don't know if you using the van inconveniences your mom or anything but I'm surprised ford didn't offer you a loaner.

Who told you I was Shatner??

Could be the size of dealer I suppose. Maybe they split him with another shop.

hate to kick you while you're down but THIS is where taking a high % loan for a used and ancient car can bite you. Luckily, I assume you have some cash on hand to get yourself out of this mess and move on like it didn't happen (assuming you need to spend anything at all). So imagine just how much this would suck if you not only had to pay out of pocket to fix a car you make payments on, but you also had to sell your 944 to do it......I haven't had to, but my friends have and it sucks. Hard. You know how you didn't get the bad loan after all? Life. Choices. Validated.
Hope it all works out and you get her back in perfect condition thanks to the warranty.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 15:05 |

It doesn't inconvenience her at all, she's out of the country until the 21st of July, only if the car isn't ready will this be an issue. And yes this is no fun whatsoever.

did you watch top gear last night? I learned that the only way to have fun in a van is give it over 1000 horsepower and a 6MT. If I had an extra $48k laying around my moms odyssey would be very very fun.

Call them, tell them its a hardship on your family to be without your daily driver. Make sure they know it's a hardship. Ask for a loaner vehicle. The vehicle is still under warranty, the manufacturer will pay for the rental/loaner if need be. Yes, ask for a loaner. If they balk, make sure they know how disappointed you are that it wasn't offered in the first place. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

I think a Rusty Windstar would snap in two if that were done. Also I don't watch TGUS.

He's probably too young.

Not much to do on Tuesday nights, so I usually catch the episodes. Definitely prefer the boys across the pond but TGUS isn't too bad.

Did you try rolling the car in neutral and then try to put it in gear? No clutch cable on this car. A very strange problem indeed! There were some trans issues with a few of these cars — popping out of gear.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 17:12 |

Loaner availability is at dealer discretion and based on age. Considering its basically a rental, a lot of places won't let you have one under 21 yo.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 17:33 |
|
You should get a free rental. The car is under warranty. If they don't, I would go to another dealership to get it serviced.

I wonder what kind of car they'd give a Focus ST owner. SHO sounds like a good choice.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 19:11 |
|
Not for me. Mustang for Karl is best loaner. Or another Focus.
![]() 07/09/2014 at 19:18 |
|
Think about it. They'll only have automatic loaners because not everyone is cool and drives stick. And your car is in the performance region. So that equals either an automatic V6 Mustang or an SHO. (in my perfect world anyway)
![]() 07/09/2014 at 19:20 |

Ecaxtly! Or a very old auto 5.0 Mustang!

I'll take that, then hoon.
